Why live in Dartmouth ?

Why live in Dartmouth?

Living and working in Dartmouth is a true delight. I feel incredibly privileged to call this beautiful town home. In fact, my job is often made easier because Dartmouth sells itself, its charm is undeniable, and it leaves a lasting impression on everyone who visits.

It’s not uncommon for people to walk into our office and remark on the friendly atmosphere here. Whether it’s a cheerful “Good morning!” or a warm smile from a passerby, Dartmouth’s sense of community is both inviting and unforgettable.

How I found Dartmouth

Growing up in East Devon, I’d visit Dartmouth as a child often arriving by steam train. However, my fondest memories of Dartmouth come from the 1990’s when I sailed here from Exmouth during the regatta. Watching the Red Arrows soar overhead and experiencing the vibrant celebrations, I knew that one day Dartmouth would become my home.

In 2010, I made that dream a reality and settled here.

The charm of Dartmouth

Dartmouth is unique. From the meandering River Dart to the historic buildings that line its streets, the town offers an unmatched blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage. Across the river in Kingswear, the view is equally enchanting.

For those lucky enough to move here, whether as full-time residents or holiday homeowners, Dartmouth provides a wonderful variety of independent shops, facilities, restaurants and pubs. It’s the perfect place for entertaining or simply enjoying the area’s relaxed pace of life.

More than bricks and mortar

Dartmouth’s appeal goes far beyond its picturesque scenery and excellent food. What truly makes this town special is its people.

As someone who wasn’t born here (what we call a “blow-in”), I’ve experienced nothing but warmth and kindness from the community. The spirit of Dartmouth shines during local events, regattas, and even challenging times like the pandemic.

The residents welcome newcomers with open arms, and this inclusiveness is one of the most important factors in choosing to live here.

Location, Location, Location

As Kirsty and Phil often say, “It’s all about location.” You can always change a house, but you can’t change its position and Dartmouth’s location is truly second to none.

Proud to call Dartmouth home

I’m proud to live and work in Dartmouth, surrounded by its natural beauty and vibrant community. Every day, I feel grateful to be part of a town that welcomes residents, visitors, and second homeowners alike.

If you’ve ever considered making Dartmouth your home, I’d love to share more about what makes this place so special.
